Blessing For A Marriage
May your marriage bring you all the
exquisite excitements a marriage should bring,
and may life grant you also patience, tolerance,
and understanding.
May you always need one another - not so much
to fill your emptiness as to help you know your fullness.
A mountain needs a valley to be complete;
the valley does not make the mountain less but more;
and the valley is more a valley
because it has a mountain towering over it.
So let it be with you and you.
May you need one another, but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one another.
May you succeed in all important ways with one another,
and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say,
"I love you!" and take no notice of small faults.
If you have quarrels that push you apart,
may both of you hope to have good sense
enough to take the first step back.
May you enter into the mystery which is the awareness
of one another's presence - no more physical than spiritual,
warm and near when you are side by side, and warm and near
when you are in separate rooms or even distant cities.
May you have happiness, and may you find it making one
another happy.
May you have love, and may you find it loving one another!
Gracious God, richly bless (......) and (.......)
in the promises that they have made to each other.
Grant that the courtesies, the thoughtfulness,
and the self giving which already
have laid the foundation for their love,
build the home which is raised on it.
May they be loyal and engaging companions to each other,
and may they be loving and wise parents.
And in this world
where there is much disillusion and disappointment...
where love brings delight
and also wounding in the frailty of our ways...
make them a visible symbol of the love that does not wane when
the evening comes but is fresh with each new day.
And as you bless this special couple this day,
bless each union represented here.
Forgive us where we have not been good news
and glad days for each other.
Perfect our imperfect love with the joy that comes from above,
and may we grow ourselves and grow in affirmation of the other.
May the Lord bless you and take care of you:
May the Lord be kind and gracious to you:
May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace.
Marriage Blessing
We thank You, O God, for the love You have implanted in our hearts.
May it always inspire us to be kind in our words, considerate of feelings, and concerned for
each other's needs and wishes.
Help us to be understanding and forgiving of human weaknesses and failings.
Increase our faith and trust in You and may Your prudence guide our life and love.
Bless our marriage, O God, with peace and happiness, and make our Love fruitful for Your glory
and our joy both here and in eternity.
Wedding Prayer
O gracious and everlasting God, you have created us male and female in your image: Look mercifully upon this man and this woman who come to you seeking your blessing, and assist them with your grace, that with true fidelity and steadfast love they may honor and keep the promises and vows they make; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Wedding Anniversary
Priest: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
People: And upon us weak and sinful, His mercy and compassion be showered in both worlds forever.
"The Lord is my light and salvation" (Ps. 27.1)
Lord Jesus Christ, we adore and call upon You on this blessed day of the wedding anniversary of these Your children. We join them in praising Your Divine Name for bringing them to this day of thanksgiving and Godly rejoicing. Save them from disturbing and threatening situations, diseases, accidents, misunderstandings, biased behavior and all other forms of evil. Let them remember anew today the holy vows and promises they made to each other and to You on the day of their marriage.
Lord, help them to remember when they first met and the strong love that grew between them. To work that love into practical things so nothing can divide tem.
We ask for words both kind and loving, and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive. Dear Lord, we put their marriage into your hands.
Enable them to fulfil the obligations of family life and strengthen them to continue in mutual love, respect and care and a life of prayer, holiness and Christian charity. Help them to bring up their children in total devotion to God and useful to God, the Church, their family and the community. Let parents be the good models in Christian conduct and behavior for their children.May these your children remember that life in this world is a preparation for life in the eternal kingdom and they may continue in virtue. Together we raise up Glory and Thanksgiving to You, Your Father and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever.?..Amen.
Bless this husband and Wife
Oh God of love, you have established marriage for the welfare and happiness, of mankind. Yours was the plan and only with you can we work it out with joy. You have said, "It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a help-meet for him." Now our joys are doubled since the happiness of one is the happiness of the other. Our burdens now are halved since when we share them, we divide the load.
Bless this husband. Bless him as provider of nourishment and raiment and sustain him in all the exaction's and pressures of his battle for bread. May his strength be her protection, his character be her boast and her pride, and may he so live that she will find in him the haven for which the heart of a woman truly longs.
Bless this loving wife. Give her a tenderness that will make her great, a deep sense of understanding and a great faith in you. Give her that inner beauty of soul that never fades, that eternal youth that is found in holding fast the things that never age. Teach them that marriage is not living merely for each other; it is two uniting and joining hands to serve you.
Give them a great spiritual purpose in life. May they seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and the other things shall be added unto them. May they not expect that perfection of each other that belongs alone to you. May they minimize each other's weaknesses, be swift to praise and magnify each other's points of comeliness and strength, and see each other through a lover's kind and patient eyes.
Now make such assignments to them on the scroll of your will as will bless them and develop their characters as they walk together. Give them enough tears to keep them tender, enough hurts to keep them humane, enough of failure to keep their hands clenched tightly in yours, and enough of success to make them sure they walk with God.
May they never take each other's love for granted, but always experience that breathless wonder that exclaims, "Out of all this world you have chosen me." When life is done and the sun is setting, my they be found then as now still hand in hand, still thanking God for each other. May they serve you happily, faithfully, together, until at least one shall lay the other in the arms of God. Amen.
