Prathyasa Bhavan

Located at South Piramadom near Pampakuda in Ernakulam District, this institution takes care of 50 boys, both mentally challenged and physically disabled. About ¾ of the total construction of the building with chapel is completed and at present inmates are only 25 orphaned boys, differently abled. A team of Rev. Fr. Abraham Valayil, Mr. M.A. Skariah, Mr. Mahesh, Mr. Sinumon Chacko, Mr. Jomon and Mr. Sibi render their committed and very dedicated work for the welfare of these children.

The Malankara Orthodox Church is committed by the call of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to serve, to uplift the marginalized, and to attend to the wants of those in distress. As a commitment to this call and to visibly express this message, the Diocese of Kandanad has initiated several charitable projects.

The developmentally and physically challenged men and women, as well as the terminally ill, are given life-long protection and care in our rehabilitation homes- Pratheeksha Bhavan (The House of Hope) and Prasanthi Bhavan (The House of Comfort). They find a haven of rest experiencing Christian love.

The orphans are cared for at Prathyasa Bhavan (The House of Expectation), the needy patients are given counseling, free medicine and financial assistance at Good Samaritan Center (The House of Consolation), and the unemployed are given job assistance and vocational training in various projects undertaken by Prathibha Charitable Trust.

Our new project Pramodam caters to the sick people in the nearby hospitals by providing them with food everyday.

Prasanthi Bhavan (Home of Comfort)

Prasanthi Bhavan is designed to provide comfort to terminally ill patients who have no place to go.

Situated at Kadayiruppu, this institution aims at providing service facilities for eighty poor patients who need long term treatment and protection. At present we take care of 17 patients with various diseases and disabilities. The Sisters from St. Mary Magdalene Convent at Adupputty take care of these patients with the help of the voluntary and dedicated work of Sr. Leelamma John Panicker, (Retired Principal of Nursing School) and four Nurses and other workers. The dedicate work of Director Rev. Fr. John Thnungal and Dr. C.T. Abraham manifest Christian care for the welfare of these marginalized patients of our society.

Pratheeksha Bhavan - (Home of Expectation)

Pratheeksha Bhavan is a three storied home situated in Palakuzha, near Koothattukulam in the Ernakulam District. This welfare home for 50 poor women, both mentally and physically challenged, has been caring for the needy people since 1996. Majority of them are either orphans or from very poor families. We provide them with long-term protection, including food, accommodation, medicines, and training programs that assist them to maximize their abilities. The inmates are trained also in tailoring, making candles, umbrellas and manufacturing soaps. The sisters of our Kizhakkambalam St. Mary’s Convent render this dedicated service to this institution focusing on the physical and mental development of their abilities. They are supplemented by paid teachers and workers.

The project aims at giving training to the unemployed youths for self employment through various small scale industries. Its main institution is at Kunnakal, near Muvattupuzha where Prathibha Curry Powder Unit and Electronics Unit are functioning. Prathibha Candles and Prathibha Umbrellas and Prathibha Ready Made Garments are in the stage at Pratheeksha Bhavan. The income generated from the products of Prathibha is utilized entirely for the recurring expenses of our charitable institutions. At present more than one hundred youths are directly employed through these projects.

The goal of the Prathibha Charitable Trust is to provide jobs to the unemployed youth of our society. Participating in the production and distribution of the products of the Prathibha Charitable Trust will be a good source of income for the unemployed young men and women.

The projects undertaken at present by the Prathibha Charitable Trust are described below:

1. Prathibha Curry Powder

This project commenced its operation on September 9, 2002. It produces practically all the curry powders needed for the traditional Kerala dishes and all of them carry the mark of approval of the State Government (Agmark). These curry powders are produced from pure materials of high quality, a fact that results in the excellent taste of the dishes prepared from these powders. We work for a noble cause and its benefits are solely dedicated for humanitarian projects. Hence we maintain only the highest standards in the production of our curry powders. Therefore we are unable to produce curry powders of second quality so as to offer them at lower prices. Our production line also offers pickles and other such products.

Excellent taste!!! Inauguration of the packing unit of Prathibha Curry Powders on 20/9/2002

2. Prathibha Garments

Our ready-made garment unit started to function in the Pratheeksha Bhavan. The inmates of the Pratheeksha Bhavan have been trained in tailoring and they are working in this unit under the guidance of a master tailor. One objective for their energetic participation in this project is to prove that they too can be contributory members of society working towards the upbuilding of the nation. The sale of the garments made in this center also is a source of sustenance for the inmates as the income goes towards the purchase of their food.

They stitch their life. Our tailoring unit in full swing.

3. Prathibha Candles

Our children of Pratheeksha Bhavan also find enough time to produce candles of various sizes to be used in our churches. We have only recently started this venture but we expect that our Prathibha Candles will be available for distribution in the churches in the immediate future. The enthusiasm of our children in this project is marvelous. You, too, could cooperate with and encourage them by purchasing Prathibha Candles. As in the other projects, the small income derived from this project goes to meeting the daily requirements of the children of Pratheeksha Bhavan and Prathyasa Bhavan.

They produce candles to bring light to many others as well as to themselves.

4. Prathibha Umbrellas

Though some of our children at Pratheeksha Bhavan are otherwise abled, they have varied talents and are strong in spirit. This is easily proved by their amazing skill in producing folding umbrellas (two and three fold) with great efficiency. You too will be able to encourage them by purchasing our Prathibha Umbrellas which will soon be available from our authorized dealers.

They work hard to protect you from rain. Our umbrella unit.

5. Prathibha Soaps

Our new venture to produce soaps has already commenced. Our children at Pratheeksha Bhavan are skilled soap-makers too. As with our other products you can rest assured that our soaps are of a high quality and are not aimed at maximizing our profit. Our main objective is charity and to be of service to the community. Here also you can cooperate with us by purchasing your soaps from us.

Good Samaritan Centre

H.G. Paulose Mar Milithios Metropolitan distributes money to Poor Patients from the Good Samaritan Center

This is a guidance centre dedicated to the patients coming for treatment at the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College and Hospital, Kolencherry. The facility will house a counseling center and an office to distribute free medicine and money to needy patients.

The center is situated at Kolencherry St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s Catholicate Centre. It provides free medicine to the poor patients admitted in the hospitals. The maximum donation for a day is five thousand Rupees, which is distributed among needy patients who have no financial means to afford the treatment. Rev. Fr. C. M. Kuriakose, the secretary of the Society renders his dedicated work for the same.

The project was inaugurated and commenced functioning from 2nd March 2003.

Pramodam

Making People Happy

Free daily food service daily to over 500 poor patients admitted in the government hospitals in Ernakulam District.

My dear Brothers & Sisters,

God is great and merciful. He has enabled us to manifest His love through our charitable projects Pratheeksha Bhavan, Prasanthi Bhavan, Prathyasa Bhavan, Good Samaritan Centre and Prathibha Bhavan. Here is a new project Pramodam with two programs. Our interest is to make people happy (The meaning of Pramodam) in their distressed conditions because of different reasons.

Our first plan is for the poor patients admitted to the Government hospitals in Kerala by providing them daily with free food. The first phase of the program is limited to the hospitals within the premises of our Diocese of Kandanad West in Ernakulam District. In this primary phase we plan to provide five hundred (500) poor patients with one meal every day. This we have already started in three government hospitals at Vadavucode, Kadayiruppu and Muvattupuzha since November 2005.

We are grateful to God that this project is warmly welcomed by all. When a poor laborer who lives on daily wages is admitted to a hospital, it is a real fact that his whole family also falls literally in poverty. The food for this family as well as the means for the educations of his children, become a premised question for him to solve. Any help in providing food at least for the patient, we are convinced, is a real need. Hence we continue with this project.

We all know how much money we spend for our food and how much food is wasted every day in our homes as well as in other places. We dine every day while there are thousands of poor patients admitted in the Government hospitals in Kerala who are starving.
