Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement

   Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement of India is the student wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, was formed to bring together Orthodox students in various colleges and high schools with a view to deepen their spiritual life and to help in creating in them a sense of fellowship. The Movement was founded by a group of students and senior leaders in Madras (Chennai) under the name 'Syrian Student Conference'in 1907. The annual conferences have been held ever since its first meeting in Ist january 1908 at Thiruvalla.Anual Conference have been a regular feature since that year.The Syrian Student Conference,the parent organisation,assumed its present name MGOCSM in1960

  MGOCSM is the oldest Christian Organisation in India.The Motto is "Worship,Study,Service" MGOCSM maintains interdisciplinary contacts in the academic field for a long time by the formation of its various wings.They are the College student's wing,High school student's wing,Univercity teachers Association,Medical Auxiliary,Technical Auxiliary,Missionary forum,Literary forum,Publication wing etc..

   Our student centers at Kottayam,Trivandrum,and Alwaye stant as fitting monuments to the continuous and tireless efforts of the Movement during the past years.Conctruction of Mar Theophilus Study Centre has started in Kottayam.Other centers at Kothamangalam,Pampady,and Bangalore is also coming to completion.Each centre provides hostal fecilities inaddition to Chapel,Auditorium,Reading room,and Guest rooms.

   Any student of a college or a high school who belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church shall be eligible to become a member of the Movement. Any person other than a student belonging to the Church and subscribing to the aims and objects of the Movement shall also be eligible to become a member of the Movement.

   Above all, the greatest contribution the Movement provided is able and outstanding leaders to the Church from time to time.

During the early years, K.C Chacko, A.A. Paul, E. J. Philipose were the people who gave leadership to the Syrian students conference. Several programmes have been talked out for the spiritual, intellectual and cultural progress of the students in the high schools and colleges. In 1983 the platinum jubilee of student's Movement was celebrated on a grand scale in the Old Seminary. Students' Centers are functioning in Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and Aluva.
Separate conferences are being held for high school and college students, associations of University Teachers and School Teachers, Medical Auxiliary Technical Auxiliary, Missionary Forum and Publishing Wing are the different sections operatin under the aegis of the M.G. O.C.S.M.

Puthencavu Geevarghese Mar Philexinos, Alexios Mar Theodosius, Daniel Mar Philexinos (1953-67), and Philipose Mar Theophilos (1968-97), have served as its President.
Since 1998 Philipose Mar Eusebios Metropolitan is the President of the M.G.O.C.S.M.

Philipose (Philipose Mar Theophilos), Deacon K.C. Joseph, N.M. Abraham. Deacon N.M. Thomas, M.Thoman, T.Paul Varghese (Paulose Mar Gregorios), Deacon P.S. Samuel, P.V. Varghese, Fr.T.E. George (Geevarghese Mar Dioscorus), Fr.Lazarus O.I.C, T.A. George Philipose Thomas (Philipose Mar Eusebios), Deacon K.O. Abraham, Fr.P.C. Cherian.Fr.George Kurien (Geevarghese Mar Kurilose ) were the Secretaries at different times.
Since 1987 Fr.M.C Cherian is the General Secretary. In December 1998 the Navathi of the Students movement was celebrated in Pathanamthitta. The Students' Center in Kottayam is its head office.
