Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Metropolitan was born on 9 December 1918 to Kochitty and Mariamma Kochitty of Munduvelil family in Mavelikara.
He obtained his B.D from Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur, his M.A from Drew University in America and his S.T.M from Union Seminary, Bangalore. He received the order of Korooyo from Metropolitan Oughen Mar Timotheos on 9 August 1947 and his priesthood from His Holiness Geevarghese II Catholicos on 10 May 1956. He was nominated to the post of Metropolitan by the Malankara Association which met at Niranam on 2 October 1974. Metropolitan Daniel Mar Philexinos at St. Mary's Cathedral Puthencavu made him Ramban. He was consecrated as Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Osthathios by His Holiness Baselios Ougen, Catholicos of the East on 16 February 1975 at Niranam Valiya Palli. He became the Head of the Niranam Diocese on 1 April 1975.
He has held the post of Vice- Principal of Orthodox Theological Seminary, President of K.C.C, President of the 'Sleebadasa Samooham' and many other posts of distinction. Besides being a theological scholar, exceptionally good organizer, preacher at conventions, he has participated in and given leadership to many meetings of the World Council of Churches and also to many conferences at the international level. He is the founder of the Mission Training Centre in Mavelikara. He is working untiringly to transform the Malankara Church into a missionary Church and also to evangelize the whole of India.
When H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos Netropolitan took over the charge as the Metropolitan of Niranam diocese on 3 Jan 2007 His Grace was declared as the Senior Metropolitan of the diocese. Served as the president of Sleebadasa Samuham and the Kerala Council of Churches and was the member of Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches. He is currently the Senior faculty member of the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam., President of the Mission Board of the Church and the Director of St. Paul’s Mission Training Centre, Mavelikara. He is the founder of a good number of charitable programmes, mission centers and institutions which include Marriage Assistance Foundation, Sick Aid Foundation, Save A Heart Foundation, House Building Aid Fund, Mission Training Centre, M.G.D Ashram & Balabhavan Karunagiri, St Pauls Asram Puthuppady, Haripad Mission Centre, Yacharam St.Gregorios Balagram, Bethanya Bhavan, St.George Balikagram Pune etc He is a world famous theologian, profound writer, orator, and owner of a very versatile personality

Formerly Fr. Varghese John, born (1954) to Mr. K V Yohannan and Aleyamma Yohannan, Mannil Puthen Purayil, Kattoor, Thiruvalla. had his early education in local schools at Kattoor, and college education at S B College, Chenganachery. After taking his Bachelors Degree in Science (Bsc) (1973-76) from the University of Kerala, he joined Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam for theological studies. After his Graduate Degree in Sacred Theology (GST) (1977-81) from the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam and Bachelor of Divinity (B.D) from Senate of University of Serampore. After taking his masters Degree in Theology (M.Th) (1991-1993) from United Theological College, Bangalore (Senate of University of Serampore) (The San Francisco Theological Seminary, USA) conferred on him a Degree of Doctor of Ministry in the faculty of Theology (1996) for his dissertation, � Preaching� (1993-1995). He widely traveled in the Gulf,USA and European countries. He received the order of Deacon from Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Osthathios on 19 April 1982 and his priesthood from His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, The Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan on 5 June 1982. On 28 January 1998,His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, The Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan made him as Remban at Parumala seminary. He is the Secretary of the Karunagiri M G D Ashram and Balabhavan. He has held the post of Principal, St. Pauls Mission training Center, Mavelikara, Visiting Faculty of St.Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur, coordinator of Malankara Orthodox Mission Board, St.Thomas Karunya Guidance Center, Ulloor, Trivandrum, Karunya Vishranthi Bhavan Kattela, Trivandrum, Marriage Assistance Foundation (MAF), Sick Aid Foundation (SAF), Member of Malankara Association Managing Committee, Council Member of Parumala Seminary,Member of Catholic-Orthodox diologe Commission and many other posts of distinction. History of the Diocese

In 1876, 22 churches were brought together in order to form the Niranam Diocese. Chathuruthi Geevarghese Mar Gregorios (Parumala Thirumeni) (1876-1902) became its first Metropolitan with Parumala Seminary as the headquarters. Pulikkotil Joseph Mar Dionysios, Vattasseril Geevarghese Mar Dionysius, kallasseril Geevarghese Mar Gregorios, and Thoma Mar Dionysius in conducted the administration of the Bishopric. His Holness Baselios Oughen Catholica Bava And His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews I Catholica Bava directly administered the diocese. From 1976 onwards Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios is the Head of the Diocese. There are in the diocese, 92 Churches including the Niranam Valiya palli which was founded by St. Thomas, the Apostle, 5 Chapels, 1 Cor Episcopa, 98 priests, 7 deacons and 10 seminarians.
Karunagiri M.G.D Ashram, Balabhavan, Haripad Balabhavan, Cheppad Mar dionysios Home for the Aged, Thiruvalla Marthamariam Mandiram Hostel and Home for the Aged are functioning under the charge of the diocese. Bethany aramana, which is on the western side of the cross-junction in Thiruvalla, is the diocesan head quarters. Mar Baselios Jubilee conference Center is functioning adjacent to the diocesan center.
