The St.Gregorios Mission Hospital, Parumala, catering the needs of 70,000 population is a charitable institution registered under the Travancore - Cochin Societies Registration Act of 1975 [ Registration No.A.334 of 1978 ]. The hospital was started on 11th September 1975 and dedicated to fond memory of Saint Gregorios, the only declared Saint of the Malankara Church whose mortal remains lie buried in the Parumala Seminary and consequently it is one of the biggest Pilgrim Centres and believers from all walks of life gather for miraculous Blessings. This Hospital is a service wing of the Parumala Seminary. Ever since its inception the hospital has been a source of refuge to thousands of the patients and is gradually developing its activities. SITUATION

The Hospital is situated in a beautiful and serene locality in Parumala village which is surrounded by the River Pampa. The place is accessible by road and rail. The nearest Railway Stations are Thiruvalla and Chengannur. [ 10 kilometers distance to both places.]

ST. GREGORIOS SCHOOL OF NURSING

    We have a Nursing School attached to the hospital giving training in 3 year General Nursing & Midwifery Course Recognized by The Kerala State Nursing Council. The school of Nursing is affiliated to the Keala State Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council. 25 students have been admitted to the school in this year. The students and staff are staying in the hostels attached.

ST. GREGORIOS DE-ADDICTION AND COUNSELING CENTRE

    Alcoholism and drug(s) abuse is a global problem creating many social as well as individual problems. Individual disorganization leads to the deterioration of that generation. Another step to serve the community we had started a DE-ADDICTION AND COUNSELING CENTRE in the premises of the hospital on 14 th February 1999 inaugurated by His Holiness the Catholicos. In this minimum period we could help 49 individuals to lead a new life . Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Alexander Koodarathil the centre is running successfully. Professionals including Psycho Therapists and Counselors have been working here to serve the community.

    We are giving fourteen days ( minimum ) inpatient treatment to alcoholics, it may take few days more in the case of drug addicts and alcoholics having severe withdrawal symptoms. At first intake counseling service will render to the close relatives of the addict about the De- Addiction treatment. Then the addict is admitted get detoxificated. Since we are considering De- Addiction treatment as a family treatment. we keep the effective involvement of the family in course of treatment. We conducting conscientisation programmes on Substance Abuse Prevention and Leader ship training for the youths also.The treatment includes Medical and Psychiatric Consultations, Psychotherapy, Individual and Family Counseling, Acupuncture and Yoga Etc. We also have A A Groups at various places.

ST. GREGORIOS EYE SERVICES

    The St. Gregorios Eye Services, Parumala was started in May 1979 with patronage and assistance from the C.B.M. West Germany. Capital grants and monthly grants have been given generously by the C.B.M towards construction of buildings, operation theatre complex, officer's quarters, supply of instruments and equipments, Medicaments and vehicles.

    FAMILY WELFARE PROGRAMME.

    Family Welfare activities are being carried out in co-operation with the CMAI and the State Government.

    RELIEF FOR POOR PATIENTS.

    Free treatment facilities are being extended to the poor and needy patients irrespective of caste creed or relegion,and the staff and dependents of the hospital and the Seminary. Besides, 50% of the charge is allowed free to the Priests. A part of the free treatment expenses is met from the donations received from the well wishers and the interest accrued from the Endowment funds.

    Give Life Project

    We introduced the Give Life Project to help the needy who is willing to take De- Addition Treatment. You can join in our noble effort to save families suffering from problems of alcoholism / drug addiction by donating Rs. 2500 for an addict, and the informations about the patient who under gone treatment with your kind help will be advised to you in due course.

    Give Sight Project.

    The objective of this project is to provide better eye care services to the poor patients those who became blind due to cataract through our Ophthalmology Department and with the help of our friends abroad, it is running successfully. Donations are expected at Rs. 1000 per patients to conduct IOL surgery on your behalf. All other expenses in connection with this surgery will be borne by the hospital.

    Members of other denomination also have generously contributed towards the acquisition of this property, and therefore this center will remain open for them and their children, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds, as a facility where they could come and plan activities of ecumenical importance. Steps have already been taken to form an ecumenical committee under the auspices of the center.

    Medical Clinic

    You can sponsor any number of patients and details about patients will be advised to you. We expect your generous contributions and help us to bring the Give Sight fund campaign grand success.

    Those who are interested to help the needy can donate Rs. 2500 / Rs.1000 for De - Addiction Treatment / IOL surgery.

    FACILITIES

    Our facilities include round the clock Casualty Service, Accident Care Unit, X- Ray units, I.C.U., E.C.G, Audiometry, Ultra Sound Scanning, Medical Lab, Microbiology Lab and a full fledged Operation Theatre Complex. In addition to this we have Mortuary and Ambulance Services.

    SPIRITUAL WORK

    Rev.Fr. K B. Mathews (Former Executive Officer of this Hospital ) and Rev. Fr. Alexander Koodarthil cater the spiritual needs including counselling of the patients, the staff and the students.

    Holy Qurbana is being conducted in the hospital chapel on all Sundays and on special occasions.
