H G Philipose Mar Eusebios, Metropolitan

     Metropolitan Philipose Mar Eusebios was born on 16 June, 1931 to P.J. Thomas and Saramma Thomas of Puthenparambil in Naranganam near Kozhencheri. He passed his Intermediate and B.Sc from U.C College, Alwaye. From 1954 he was an employee in Southern Railways. In 1962 he resigned his job. He obtained his B.D from Serampore, M.Th from Bangalore U.T College, and a post graduate diploma in divinity from Geneva University. On 21 December 1972 and on 7 June 1974 he received his deaconship and priesthood respectively.
He has also served as the General Secretary of the Orthodox students movement; Superior of Thadakam Christian Sisiyashramam; Secretary,Lecturer, Bishop's College, Calcutta, Secretary, Andhra Natural Calamities Relief and Rehabilitation Activities and professor of Church history in the Orthodox Theological Seminary.
On 14 May 1983 the Catholicos Designate Mathews Mar Coorilos made him Ramban at Parumala.On 15 May 1985, he was elevated as Episcopa Philipose Mar Eusebios by His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathew I, Catholicos of the East at St. Mary's Church, Puthiyacavu. He has been the auxiliary Metropolitan in the Thumpamon Diocese from I August 1985 and from 1990 onwards he assumed full responsibility as Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese.

     He is a theological Scholar, an organiser, a writer and an orator on. He has represented the Malankara Church and in several meetings of the World Council of Churches, the Christian Conference of Asia and in other international seminars. He is also serving as the Manager of the M.O.C Corporate Colleges, the president of M.G.O.C. S. M, the Vice- President of Malankara Church Mission Board, Chairman of the Ecumenical Christian Centre in Bangalore and President of the Inter - Church Relations Committee.
 
History of the Diocese
 

The Thumpamon diocese was formed in 1876 by bringing together 21 Churches. Konatt Geevarghese Mar Julios (1876-1884), Parumala Geevarghese Mar Gregorios (1884-1902), Yuuakim Mar Ivanios (1913-1925), Puthencavu Geevarghese Mar Philexinos (1930-1951), Daniel Mar Philexinos (1953-1990) successively undertook the administrative responsibilities of the Diocese.
Pulikkotil Joseph Mar Dionysius, Vattasseril Geevarghese Mar Dionysius, and Baselios Oughen 1 who were Malankara Metropolitans have also taken up direct administrative responsibilities of the diocese. Form I August 1985 Philopose Mar Eusebios was the Assistant Metropolitan. From 1991 onwards he has been the Head of the Diocese.
There are in the Diocese 4 Cathedrals, 107 Churches, 14 Chapels, 3 Rambans, 8 Cor Episcopa, 91 Priests, 6 deacons and 16 Seminarians. The 3 I.T.C at Mylapra, Kaippatoor and Thannithode and Mar Philexinos Memorial building complex at Pathanamthitta are institutions belonging to the diocese. The headquarters of the diocese is Basil Aramana in Pathanamthitta.
